Deliberately Human · Chapter 4 · Interactive
Two uncertainties shape the next decade: how fast AI develops, and whom it ends up serving. Cross them and you get four futures. Pick a corner, then see how six choices push towards one side or the other.
Chapter 6 names six choices that decide which future arrives. For each, pick the accountable option or the opaque one.
The scoring rule here is my own illustration, not a forecast and not a finding from the research: four or more accountable choices points towards the guarded, widely shared side; two or fewer towards the thinly overseen, concentrated side; three is a tipping point. Pace is not something these six switches control.
Chapter 6 sets out seven moves that make sense whichever future arrives, and the signals worth watching. They are not repeated here so that this page never drifts from the text.

The four futures are the author's own scenario construction (Penfold, 2026), labelled in the book as a speculative extension. They are thinking tools, not predictions.
